conscientiousness, or not

I might have been a bit too conscientious on changing the cell phone number to SC, besides the fact, that is, of ending up with a shocking amount of even digits in it (ick!). The wackier, if short-term, effect is that I keep forgetting to dial 334 when I'm calling local numbers so keep accidentally calling people in SC...

OK that part isn't so wacky but this is. 4 out of the 5 people I've accidentally called this way have called me back to see who called them. Apparently Clems*ners are either super conscientious or just hurting for human contact...

Unless it's really me who is weird... (A theory which has indeed been broached on occasion.) I never call back missed numbers ever, not even from friends. If friends call and don't leave a msg. I assume they decided they didn't need whatever they were calling for in the first place or changed their mind or something or had to toss the phone down to stop the cat from going out the door and will call back if necessary. Of course if I don't hear from them for days then I always check in case someone fell in their tub or something mid-phone call. It's not like I'm lacking in ALL compassion!

I call back if it looks remotely familiar. Mainly because it's my only phone line and I give it out to organizations as my contact number. Just my two cents.

this from someone who purports to be more antisocial than I! :)

i hate it when people don't leave messages, either; sometimes, i'm fairly certain they are watching me watch the caller i.d. and thinking there's no use to saying more. otherwise, unknown callers are sales people or surveys.

i call back doctors' and attorneys' offices when they leave messages for people who are not i. that seems important. once i texted back a young boy who was apparently trying to reach his mom, or vice versa, i forget which. i also have texted back this guy (i think) who was sending badly spelled (another text dialect) love-ish and apology messages. those things have got to be stopped — can't have my attention pulled off for a text of no import!
