pic hodge podge

Here's our friend, TC.

I'm pretty sure ours is not the only catfood diner he frequents but I think he can afford to be a little fat since he'll have to fight off the winter temps - not that it'll be that cold around here but still. The funnest thing about him you can't really see - he seems full grown, that is filled out and adult-looking rather than leggy like they are up to a year or so, yet he's about 1/3 smaller than Lucy. He's like a little prize-fighter cat; small and stocky (his fur is brushy which makes him look even moreso). Even his tail is short and stocky altho it's due to an injury somewhere along the line - you can see a slight crook at the end still but it's also missing a couple inches I think. Anyway someday I'll try to get something in the pic for scale.

Here's my new backpack I got on sale from REI - now I just have to find a backpacking trip... Of course there are some supplies I don't have yet/anymore, too, so I'll take my time before going on a trip...

Here's how to tell that Sammers has been rearranging wall decorations during the day...

Here's how to tell that he has found something interesting in the wastebasket...

Not to leave out Miss Lucy, who remains as elusive as ever where photos are concerned, but here's a blurry shot so you can see a good angle on her newfound sveltness :)

A handful of canceled outings lately, one my trip to Atlanta to see the Magnetic Fields with Andy. Hal broke down minutes before I was to leave town (thankfully I was not on the road yet). The $1100 bill was kind of the topper to my icky mood, which had been slightly better. Now things really do seem better so I hope that doesn't mean we're due another scary expense. Anyway my duffle sat on the bed all night after the foiled trip, much to Sam's delight...

The other canceled trip was the kayaking/campout in central SC (as opposed to Central, SC :) - very disappointing indeed, not least as I was meant to go hang out with Pree & Brad afterwards. Anyway the weather everyone thought would make various outings too dangerous to keep on the schedule ended up going away after a very lackluster rain on Friday night. So a few impromptu trips sprouted, one of which was me and two of my friends from the hiking group to DuPont State Park for a pretty short but beautiful hike at Triple Falls...

You can just barely see Mike in this one for scale.

Me, Mike, and Maureen.

We called it the Serendipity Hike b/c as we were starting out and were admiring how beautiful the weather and leaves were we decided that we were probably going to have some kind of miracle that day and that whatever it was we would have to say YES. We were thinking it would be some added adventure on the hike but it turned out to be Maureen's friends in Greenville calling while we were on the road to invite her to a late lunch of homemade BBQ. She asked if she could bring two people with her and they graciously agreed. So we hiked, then stopped at one of the many mountain apple orchard stores around DuPont/Pisgah for some dessert and cider to take as our contribution, then headed back to Gville to her friends' for truly yummy BBQ pulled pork and equally yummy conversation. Very good day.
