Corn on the Cob Never Lets You Down, or: Random Samples

from my head today...

  • I finally finished The Lady Vanishes last night, which is misleading, making you think it was a trial or hard to get thru or something, which is not the case. Anyway Andy and I have been watching Six Feet Under off and on and in the 3rd season episode where Lisa disappears (don't spoil it for me even tho I have my suspicions - I have yet to watch the last two ep's) at one point someone is watching late night TV and The Lady Vanishes is on. Partly I was impressed at the serendipity of this since the same movie was on my shelf at home from Netflix, but mostly I was a little dismayed at the on-the-nose-ness of this movie placement. Not worthy of 6FU I don't think, fun movie or no.

  • I will turn on the AC so I can make a pie and not die of heat, thereby also making things more comfy for certain fuzzy loved ones.

  • Got my first roasting ears of the season the other day. Corn on the cob is just as sublime as ever. I'm always surprised it actually meets the expectations of my memory. Seriously it's one of those things where you think your mind is playing tricks on you "It's just one more case of remembering something as so great and then I'll be let down, I know it." But corn on the cob never lets you down!! Seriously. Unbelievably yummy. Go buy some.

  • Didn't make it to the studio yesterday but I'm really committing myself this next week, the moreso since I have several gifties planned in my head...

  • What is the deal with TV shows and bandaging booboos? Have you ever noticed that 99% of the time if a movie or TV character hurts him/herself they never have regular bandaids? Every time it's again with the stupid gauze and tape! Someone needs to let these people know that bandaid technology is actually much further progressed. It IS the 21st century after all. NOTE: addendum 6/24/07: cmm's comment made me realize the lack of clarity here - I meant for teensy little cuts & scrapes. Of course there are times - heaven forbid - when we all need more than a bandaid. :)

  • Finished Harry Potter 5 the other day. Each year I read the one for which the movie is imminent. Then I wait for the next movie to spark me to the next. There must be hope for me tho; I must not be a complete stick in the mud yet I mean, since this time I went ahead and bought HP6 and dug into it right after. Slow start and at least one thing so far I'll have to ask either John A. or Macie, my HP experts, but it's pretty fun nonetheless.

  • Talked to Paul and Karen this morning. Of particular fun was their description of household canine antics. Paul promises pix of their latest addition, Rufus. Just as of this very instant (talk about up to the minute news!) I'm aiming for a Maryland/Virginia road trip. Thanksgiving is more feasible financially but if I really scrape and can swing it for end-July/début-Aug I could spend more time and hopefully see J&H and possibly l'Equipe Elizabeth, to boot. It's a very slim chance, plus need to check on Hal - he is due for normal maintenance stuff the first week of July so I'll ask them to look him over extra with a trip in mind. If he doesn't pass muster I'll still have time to think about airline tickets maybe. I'd rather drive even tho it means more time since it would be a great head-clearer before school starts. I'll have to review the finances after bills this week anyway.

  • When did things start seeming so infeasible?

  • I better go work out before this turns stormy, which I'm prone to the last few days.

corn, for all its probable-genetic engineering (though, isn't that just the feed corn and the make-it-uneconomical-ethanol corn?), seems to be the one, still-true "veggie" experience.

i mean, tomatoes, plums, even apples, a life-staple of mine, just taste like nothing. unless you grow them yourself, which i can't.

    hooray for corn.

élota is what roasted corn on the cob is called in mexico.

i am always surprised that i like corn on the cob better these adult days without the butter and salt (that gear must have). just talking boiled/steamed corn here.

pfft, try going for jog with one of those oversized bandaids on your knee. The elastic/"waterproof" cover pulls the bandaid right into your uh-oh and do more damage than good.

P.S. - you must see "Year of the Dog" a.s.a.p.
