advice to Coca-Cola lovers

Besides the fact that it's near-sacrilege to spoof one of my favorite childhood commercials, the new Coke Zero ads on hulu are just plain asinine. And yes, I do realize that is what they were trying for - they just overshot the mark. There's smart stupid and stupid stupid, and these ads are clearly in the latter category.

Even stupider is how the Coke company thinks Coke Classic tastes OK with corn syrup in it (so of course it would be quite difficult to tell it from Coke zero like in the other spoof ad of the blind taste test since they both taste crappy).

They still use sugar in their Coke Classic in France, so every time you want a real Coke like when we were little enough to watch the Mean Joe Green commercial, put that money in a jar and buy yourselves a ticket to Paris next summer. I'll buy you all a non-corn syrup Coke at Café de Notre-Dame (but only one before I get you hooked on panachés).

Haven't seen the Coke commercials (in fact I haven't even been to hulu) but I'll have to go check them out as I love a good spoof!

I remember back in the 60's going down with my family to visit by uncle who lived in SC. He used to get Coke syrup and we'd make our own. There was something special about that whole thing for me because it was something we couldn't do up North. I cannot remember if it tasted good or not - my memory just isn't that good anymore about some of those things.

I'll start saving for plane fare this week. Of course since I drink like 2 cans of soda during the whole week it may take a while.

Wow! I would never have guessed about any kind of difference in any coke products. I stopped drinking those things about 2003! If you could only talk to someone who was alive in the 20s (or whenever it was) when coke was actually made with cocaine instead of caffeine..... I bet they are quite disappointed with the changes!

What will people say 20 or 50 years from now? Perhaps your blog will still be around as a reference!

I don't think you have to fly all the way to France. There is still some places in the US that make it with cane sugar, I know I bought some when I lived in Auburn. I think the small glass bottle kinds in the stores there were made with Cane Sugar. And I'm pretty sure you'd be able to find some in Atlanta...

I remember Coke syrup at the pharmacy, too - remember the little bottles they sold there as med? it combatted nausea believe it or not - and it worked quite well I'll have you know. We never made the home brew version :) And yes I know there's sugar coke somewhere over here but isn't it more fun to think about having it in France? for those who'd like to visit me that is :) I, too, boys, am on a limited pop diet - down to one a week (altho I had two this weekend I admit - I decided I was allowed an extra because of my cold :)

Hope you're feeling better Susan - be careful and watch out for the swine stuff!

BTW, when you're up to it can you tell us how you make a panache? Do you use lemonade or limon-soda?

Was just watching the History Channel and they came out with this fact during an episode about sweets:
If you took every bit of Coca-Cola ever produced and put it in 8 oz containers end-to-end it would reach from earth to the moon 1,300 times.
That's a lotta Coke!

coke zero is banned in venezuela. it is in our fridge. it is passable in taste. i try so hard to not drink soda, but in the past 2 years have had more than in rest of life combined … foolishly ordered a diet coke at a restaurant on the road and about wretched. diet dr. pepper, full of lovely aspartamine or whatever, tastes good, making it too hard to resist. just keep looking at the enamel on the teeth for motivation …
